Jose Boutmy

Jose Boutmy (Ghent, 1697 - Brussels, 1779) was a Organiste and Claveciniste of the southernmost Netherlands which intalla in Brussels. He worked with the Holy-Gudule collegial , for the Prince de Thurn und Taxis (1736), and with the Royal Vault of Brussels (1744). He was of a family of musicians, like his grand' father, his father, his older brother and several of his (many) children.

He composed three collections of parts for the harpsichord:

  • First book (1738)
  • Second book (1738)
  • Third book (about 1749) dedicated to the governor Charles of Lorraine.

Its style is a synthesis various European influences: Frenchwoman (François Couperin, Branch, Duphly), Italian (Domenico Scarlatti), allemande (Haendel, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach) and her parts juxtapose elements of the traditional continuation, parts of character and movements of sonata, as also a colleague musician of Brussels contemporary practiced it: Joseph-Hector Fiocco.
