Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera

Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera Sáenz de Heredia (Madrid, April 24th 1903 - Alicante, November 20th 1936) is a Spanish Politician there, creator of the Spanish Phalange, a party national-trade unionist. He died the November 20th 1936 with Alicante.

Biography

He is the son of the general Miguel Primo de Rivera, dictator in Spain between 1923 and 1930. Jose Antonio studies with the Faculty of Law of Madrid, become lawyer he writes in the newspapers El Fascio and ABC . The May 2nd 1930, wanting to defend the memory of his/her father, it accepts the load of vice-secretary of the Unión Monárquica of Alfonso Sala Argemí, but is beaten with the elections of 1931 by its preserving adversary Bartolomé Cossío. In 1932 it is stopped to support the military Coup d'etat of the Général Sanjurjo and founds with the aviator Ruiz de Alda the " Movimiento Sindicalista Español" who would be the embryo of the Phalange. The October 29th 1933, it founds the Spanish Phalange, a party fascisant and Nationaliste. Beaten with the legislative elections of the February 16th 1936, with an electoral score of 0,7% of the votes, it is declared out the law by the Spanish Republicans following the attempted murder of Jiménez de Asúa by students of the SEU (Sindicato Español Universitario), a trade union national-trade unionist. Jose Antonio sees himself then imprisoned with the Modelo prison of Madrid with other leaders of the party, to have had in her possession three revolvers, which will not prevent it from continuing to direct since the prison. The June 5th 1936 it is transferred to the prison from Alicante which will be its tomb.

In July 1936, Jose Antonio is seen obliged, against its will, to grant its support for the General Emilio Mola and the other generals risen against the republican government. During the civil war, the Phalange became the political movement dominating among nationalists, although attended mainly by members of the Aristocratie and Bourgeoisie.

The November 17th 1936, Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera is judged for military rebellion, ensuring itself its own defense and that of his/her Miguel brother and the woman of this last, then is condemned to died by a popular court. It is carried out in Alicante the November 20th same year. It becomes one of the martyrs of the movement Franquiste. Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera is exhumed in 1959 to be buried in the Basilique Holy-Cross LED valle of los Caìdos.

Extra informations

Primo de Rivera is the author of the words of the anthem of the Phalange, Cara Al ground . He considered his movement, the Spanish Phalange, like a party national-trade unionist, exciting the nation. Pilar Primo de Rivera, the sister of the chief of the Phalange, had founded a “female Section” of the Phalange.

Its posterity

  • the last public statue of Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera is unbolted in March 2005 on decision of the municipal council of Guadalajara, making following the Spanish government which carried out the removal of the statue of the Franco general to Madrid. These monuments are indeed considered to be inappropriate in democratic Spain.
  • Franco also died on November 20th, 1975, that is to say 39 years later (suspicions of artificial prolongation of its life to reach this date symbolic system exist). It rests close to Jose Antonio. November 20th remains a date symbolic system for the extreme Spanish line.
  • the displacement of the burials of J.A Firstly of Riveira and Free was required by the communist deputies of Izquierda there Unión in 2005 at the same time as the reconversion of the basilica co. Cross built in the name of the " caidos" , i.e. " those which are tombés" since it was supposed to pay homage to all deaths of the civil war. It is however not envisaged in the current project to proceed to any exhumation.
