Jorma Panula
Jorma Panula is a Leader, type-setter and professor Finnish, born the August 10th 1930 with Kauhajoki.
Biography
He studies the sacred music and the direction with the Académie Sibelius of Helsinki with as professors Leo Funtek, Dean Dixon, Albert Wolf and Franco Ferrara.Artistic director and chief of the Philharmonic orchestra of Turku of 1963 to 1965, of the Philharmonic orchestra of Helsinki of 1965 to 1972, then Symphony orchestra of Århus of 1970 to 1973. He regularly was invited chief of the national Opera of Finland.
He was professor of direction to the Sibelius Academy of 1973 to 1994, like with the royal Academies of Stockholm and Copenhagen.
He had as raises Esa-Pekka Salonen, Mikko Franck, Sakari Oramo (which succeeded Simon Rattle with the head of the Symphony orchestra of Birmingham), Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Osmo Vänskä.
The type-setter
He also composed a great number of works, the such operas Jaako Ilkka and Rivière which mixes music, visual art and art of the daily life. Among his other compositions, one can quote his sacred music, a concerto for violin, a capriccio jazz and vocal Musique.
Selective discography
Jorma Panula engraved many discs devoted to the Finnish repertory. Its recording of the Kullervo of Jean Sibelius, with the Philharmonic orchestra of Turku, is a reference. One can also quote the recording of the symphony n° 3 of Leevi Madetoja, the pupil more endowed with Sibelius, with the Philharmonic orchestra of Helsinki.
