The seizure of power

She is composed initially of Videla, of the commander of the navy, the admiral Emilio Eduardo Massera and of the commander of the air forces, the Sergeant-general Ramón Agosti. Videla yields the presidency of the Junta to the general Roberto Eduardo Viola in 1981.

The policy of the junta

The Argentinian soldiers lead a war without slackening against ideals of left and any opposition to, literally, Christian and Western civilization. During years which follow, the army assassinates or makes disappear from 10.000 to 30.000 people, mainly of the political opponents. In parallel, some 500.000 opponents with the mode see themselves constrained with the exile, to escape repression.

Those which defend this mode carry him their regard because it was anti Communiste (luminous Sentier, etc…).

End of the mode

During the year 1983, the military regime, weakened by its cuisante demolished vis-a-vis the British navy in the War of the Falklands, yields the place to a civil government democratically elected with for president the radical Raúl Alfonsín.
