Jordi Savall
Jordi Savall , born the 1941 with Igualada (Province of Barcelona - Spain), is a Catalan Musicien Spanish, violist and Chef of chorus, whose repertory extends from the medieval Musique with that of the 19th century while passing by the Musique of the Rebirth and baroque. Married with the Spanish Soprano Montserrat Figueras in 1968, he is the father of Arianna and Ferran Savall, both singers and musicians.
Biography
He studies the Violoncelle with the academy of Barcelona where he meets Montserrat Figueras, its future wife. He directs himself then towards the Viola da gamba during a stay in Paris where he discovers the manuscripts of Marin Marais to the National library. He contacts Wieland Kuijken then. He then continues his studies with the Schola Cantorum of Basle where he receives the teaching of August Wenziger which he will succeed. He creates the unit Hespèrion XX there become since Hespèrion XXI, with in particular Hopkinson Smith.He directs several whole of historical music: Hespèrion XXI, the Concert of the Nations and the Capella Reial de Catalunya, sometimes at the sides of its wife Montserrat Figueras and of his/her daughter Arianna.
In 1991, its collaboration with the French realizer Alain Corneau for the film Every morning of the world contributed to give to the last style the Baroque music and to make known with the general public the Viola da gamba.
It also created its own label of music publishing Alia Vox in 1997.

Jordi Savall recorded more than 120 discs since 1968, as a soloist or within formations as varied as the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, the Ensemble Ricercare etc It also devotes to studies on the old Musique Spanish, of which it makes an effort ressusciter the art of the improvisation and the authentic instrumentation.-
