Jordanne

The Jordanne is a French Rivière Massif Central.

Geography

The valley of Jordanne occurs to the Puy Mary, extends in the same direction as the Vallée from Cère, and after having traversed a 36 kilometers length, will finish with Aurillac. This valley starts with the circus of Mandailles, and which, dominated circularly by the Puy Chavaroche, the Puy Mary, the Puy de Bataillouse and the Col of Pulls up, the shape one of the Plutonian craters best characterized. All these peaks, indeed, were volcanos. Jordanne emerges from the high nipples by two different sources. Its course penetrates immediately under the shades of the drill of Rombières, and enlarges water of several brooks there. At its exit, it is already river; one sees it palpitating with the first flames of the sun and slipping like a silver plated grass snake. With the fur is measurement of its casting towards Aurillac, it forms throats, Jump-of-the-Menette, on the commune of Saint-Cirgues-with-Jordanne, in the plains of Velzic it becomes calmer. It enters to Aurillac and crosses it, on the level of the Quartier of the Boxwood, it is retained by a roadway to feed a laundrette and a channel having been used for the tanners of the city. After having crossed the viel Aurillac, it enters the southern districts of the more modern city. In order to facilitate various urban constructions, its bed was deviated on the level, at the time, of the " meadow of Sistrières". Jordanne skirts the plain of the sports of Ponétie to finish its way in the Cère on the commune of Arpajon-sur-Cère.

Hydrography

Jordanne provides the essence of the Drinking water basin of Aurillac.

Egalement this river was used to feed out of clear water the laundrettes of the town of Aurillac, but also to irrigate the various agricultural meadows. Still in the years 1960, the meadows of Ponétie, the viaduct, of Sistrières, Brousac and Baradel were flooded after the collecting of the hays in order to allow the inch of the renewal.

Principal affluents

Of the two reverses opposite of the valleys of Jordanne, precipitate a crowd of small brooks, which, by the large rains, become torrents. They cut out the ground in any direction, form on the slopes of the oases full with freshness; then one sees them meeting in Jordanne.
