Jordan Rudess

Jordan Rudess (born the November 4th 1956) is a mainly known Claviériste to belong to the group of progressive Métal Dream Theater.

Biography

Jordan was recognized as of its more young age by one of its professors like having very a strong potential of pianist. It accepted professional courses then to develop its extraordinary talent. At the nine years age, it entered prestigious the Juilliard School for a traditional formation of Piano . But a few years later its interest for the Synthetizer S and the progressive Rock had taken an important place. Against the opinion and the will of his parents and its professors, it decided to leave side the traditional piano and to become Claviériste of progressive rock'n'roll.

After having taken part in many projects during the years 1980, it obtains the recognition in 1994 while being named " Best New Talent" (better new artist) by the readers of Keyboard Magazine following the exit of its album solo Listen . Among the groups which then noticed its talent, the Dixie Dregs and Dream Theater proposed both in Jordan to join them. It chooses Dregs mainly for the possibility of being able to be part-time member by thus reducing the impact on its young family, possibility that it did not have with Dream Theater.

During its period with Dixie Dregs, Jordan formed a " power duo" with the beater Rod Morgenstein. Duet whose origin goes back to an electric failure at the time of a concert with Dregs which prevented all the instruments from functioning except those of Jordan. Rod and Jordan improvised then together until the problem is repaired and which the concert can take again its normal course. Alchemy between the two musicians was so strong at the time of this ox which they decided to play together in a regular way under the name Rudess/Morgenstein Project . They left an album studio and a recording live.

Jordan was again in contact with Dream Theater when him and Rod made the first part of their concerts at the time of a North-American round.

In 1997, when Magna Carta required of Mike Portnoy to form a " supergroupe" , Jordan was selected as clavierist. Tony Levin with low and John Petrucci with the guitar supplemented the formation of Liquid Tension Experiment. During the recording of the two albums, it becomes obvious in Mike and John that Jordan was precisely the person which Dream Theater needed. They then asked Jordan to join them and thanked Derek Sherinian (then clavierist of Dream Theater).

Jordan is clavierist full-time of Dream Theater since the recording in 1999 of Metropolis, Pt. 2: Scenes From has Memory . It then recorded with the group four other albums studios: Six off Dismantle Inner Turbulence in 2002, Train Off Thought in 2003, Octavarium in 2005 and Systematic Chaos in 2007.
