Joost van den Vondel

Joost van den Vondel is a writer, Poète and Dramaturge Dutch born with Cologne the November 17th 1587, died with Amsterdam the February 5th 1679.

Biography

Joost van den Vondel knew a great fame. It had much influence and is regarded today as the creator of the language and the Dutch traditional theater. Just like one speaks about the “language of Molière” and about “language of Shakespeare” to evoke the French and the English, one generally speaks about the “language of Vondel” to indicate the Dutch.
