Jonokuchi

Jonokuchi (序ノ口) is the name of the last division of classification of the fighters of Sumo. All the fighters, put besides those which made a success of a brightness university career and which are authorized to begin in top from Makushita, begin in jonokuchi.

In addition to the new fighters, division gathers the other new recruits and the former fighters fallen down in the classification because of bad results or wounds.

The initial position of a new fighter is determined by his result with a tournament, the mae-zumo , taking place at the time of the preceding tournament their first appearance on the banzuke (the classification).

Division jonokuchi comprises on average between 70 and 100 fighters, with a point with each Natsu Basho , in May, indeed, the number of mae-zumo to the preceding tounoi ( Haru Basho , in March) being generally much higher, because of Japanese school end of the year.

Division jonokuchi follows division Jonidan in the system of grading of the fighters of sumo.
