Joncherey
Joncherey is a commune of the Territoire of Belfort belonging to the canton of Delle.

Geography
The village is located on the railway and the road RN 19 which connect Belfort to Delle and the Suisse. The population, which did not exceed 336 inhabitants in 1803 gathered 1314 in 1999 of them.
History
The history of Joncherey is a little that of Delle, near. At the time Roman, the territory of the village was crossed by a minor road which connected the military way Mandeure - Augst to Vellescot. In 728 the count Eberhard, wire of the duke of Alsace Adalbert, offered to the Abbaye of Murbach, which it had just founded, goods that it had in Delle and Joncherey. An act gone back to 1290 mentions Juncherye for the first time, by specifying that it is about the lower part of the village, which lets suppose that this last consisted of at least two hamlets. This distinction is confirmed thereafter when it is mentioned Large-Joncherey and Small-Joncherey . One meets also the name of Guntscherac in the acts written in German. On the religious, Large-Joncherey level depends on the parish of Boncourt (Suisse), while Small-Joncherey is attached to Delle. This situation lasted until the Révolution. After the Legal settlement, in 1802 the inhabitants of Joncherey were parish of Delle and remained it until the construction of the church of Joncherey (photo opposite) and the institution of the new parish, on March 18th 1865. Both first died of the First World War were killed in Joncherey on August 2nd 1914. The French soldier was the corporal Jules-Andre Peugeot.October 1st, 1972, Lebetain, Delle and Joncherey link their destinies through a fusion of communes. But this association lasts only one ten years.
