Jonagold is the name of a Cultivar of Pommier, Malus pumila “Jonagold”, born with the the United States in 1953 of the crossing between Golden Delicious and Jonathan.

Description

The Pomme with fairly fine skin large and is scented. Its flesh semi-firm, juicy and is sweetened but, like the Golden delicious delicious, lack of character.

Because of its large gauge which makes it difficult to sell, this variety is not preferred Arboriculteur S (2% of the French production).

Culture

Of vigorous growth, the tree requires however periodic folding backs on buds axillaires to start again the strength of growth.

Jonagold is an apple tree Triploïde. It thus needs a second type of apple tree to be Polliniser and is unable to provide Pollen for other trees.

Pollinating : James Grieve, McIntosh, Idared, Red Delicious, Granny Smith, Melrose, Apple bell, Orange Cox, Queen of the Rennets, Spartan, Elstar, Gloster. Not very fertile with Golden delicious Delicious .
