Jonage

Jonage is a common French, located in the department of the the Rhone and the area the Rhone-Alps.

The inhabitants of Jonage are called Jonageois.

Geography

History

In Ier century before our era, the site was occupied by a tribe, the " Pégasiares, which formed the pagus of Meyzieu. With the Roman conquest, the ground of Jonage was included in the province Viennese then, after the bursting of the empire and the advent of feudality, it belonged to the Dauphine one. With the the Middle Ages, Jonage depended on Midsummer's Day of Lyon, as one announces it pouillé (state of the benefit of the Church) the 11th century announcing the church of " Joanages" among that of the Archpriest of Meyzieu. On the other hand, there remain nothing the old residence of the Count S Yon de Jonage, built on the other pouring of the hill in 1678. From second half of the 19th century, the population decrease gradually. The industrial rise of Lyon attracts the peasants, who forsake their ground with the profit of the factory work. However, titanic work of boring of the channel of Jonage, between 1892 and 1899, mobilized hundreds of workmen, of which many inhabitants of the commune.
