Jon and Vangelis is the name under which Jon Anderson and Vangelis Papathanassiou published together four albums of 1979 with 1991.
Members of the group
Jon Anderson is a British with the crystalline voice, almost childish, known singer mainly as a singer of the progressive rock group Yes.Evangelos Papathanassiou, known under the simple name Vangelis, is known for its albums of instrumental music (primarily on synthetizers) and its film musics ( Blade Runner , Carriages of fire or 1492 ).
Career
In May 1974, the clavierist Rick Wakeman leaves the group Yes. During the summer, the group auditions several musicians to replace it, of which Vangelis. It will be finally the Swiss Patrick Moraz which will replace Rick Wakeman of 1974 to 1976, but Jon Anderson and Vangelis has seemed to have woven a friendship for this time.Their collaboration started in 1975, when Jon Anderson speaks on behalf of the song So Long Ago, So Clear , which concludes the album Heaven and Hell from Vangelis.
When Jon Anderson leaves the group Yes in 1979, it approaches Vangelis. Jon Anderson exploits of the toothing-stone a Wild piece of Opéra in 1979 then sings the following year on See You Later .
The two artists put their joint talent to leave a first album of songs ( Short stories , in 1979) mixing the compositions with Vangelis and the texts written by Jon Anderson.
This album will quickly be followed by excellent the The friends off Mr. Cairo (1981) then by Private collection (1983), whose sound textures approach those of the original soundtrack of the film the Carriages of fire or Antarctica , of Vangelis.
The fourth album is put in building site shortly after and of the demonstrations are recorded in 1986, without immediate continuations. In 1989, Let' S claims , a made up piece for this album, is taken again by Jon Anderson for the album Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe. Finally, the album of Jon and Vangelis, entitled Page off life , leaves in 1991 and includes/understands a composition of Jon Anderson, Is it coils . In dissension on the tracks and the versions retained on the album, this last makes leave, in 1998, an alternate version of the album, in spite of the opinion of Vangelis. This seems to ring the knell of their friendship, the two artists not having collaborated since.
There exist also two compilations of Jon and Vangelis: The best off Jon and Vangelis (1984) relates to only the first three albums and Chronicles (1994) integrates the last.
Two songs of the album The friends off Mr. Cairo were the subject of recoveries: I' L find my way home was included in a version very slow and Gothic by Project Pitchfork, while State off independence was taken again by Donna Summer in a version more funky and rapid.
