Jon Hassell

Jon Hassell is a American trumpet player born the March 22nd 1937 with Memphis in the Tennessee.

Biography

He is recognized for his particular technique, fruit of his meetings with Indian traditional musicians, in particular the singer Pandit Pran Nath. While taking as a starting point the song of Pandit Pran Nath, Jon Hassell develops a single style of play of trumpet. Later, it meets Brian Eno and then starts to transform the sound of its trumpet with electronic effects. Jon Hassell is known to be the creator of the " Fourth World Music" , a combination of musics " anciennes" and of technological treatments futuristic.

In the years 1960, Jon Hassell followed the teaching of Karlheinz Stockhausen and worked with Terry Riley (its first trace discographic will be on the recording of In C of Terry Riley, showpiece of the American music and one of works founders of the movement minimalist in the music). Jon Hassell was also member of the whole of Assembles It Young. Hassell, Young and Riley have all the three studied the music with Pandit Pran Nath.
