Jon Hall (programmer)
John Hall (called maddog , “insane dog”) is the director of international Linux, a non-profit organization which wishes to promote the Operating system Linux.
The nickname maddog was given to him by its students of the Hartford State Technical College, where he was the chief of the data-processing department. He now prefers to be called by this name. According to him, this nickname would come from one time when I had less control on my temperament .
It is titular of a Master off Science in data processing of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1977) and of a Baccalauréat in sciences in trade and engineering of the Drexel University (1973).
He worked for companies like the Western Electric Corporation, the insurances Aetna, the Laboratoires Beautiful, Digital Equipment Corporation, GOES Linux Systems, and SGI. It is currently consulting for industry.
It is at the time where he worked for DIGITAL which it was interested initially in Linux, and helped Linus Torvalds to obtain equipment and resources to create its first bearing, on a platform Alpha of DIGITAL. It is also at that time that John Hall, who lived in the New Hampshire, founded most important User group Linux of this state.
John Hall belongs to the Board of directors several companies, and several non-profit organizations, of which association USENIX. It is a famous pioneer of the data-processing community, and a leader of the movement Open Source.
John Hall received a price for the whole of his services at the Open Source community, with the Linux and Open Source Awards 2006 , in the United Kingdom.
