Jon Drummond
Jonathan A. Drummond known as Jon Drummond , born the September 9th 1968, is an American athlete, Olympic champion in relay 4 X 100 meters with the Olympic Games of summer of 2000.
Biography
Born with Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, Jon Drummond is known to be one of the fastest sprinters to spout out out of the starting blocks.In 1991, Drummond gained the 200 m with the Universiade S. In 1993, with the championships of the world, Drummond was the first relay runner of 4 X 100 m American which gained gold and equalized the world records in 37" 40 during the semi-finals. Two years later, he was the second relay runner of the American team eliminated in series from 4 X 100 m after a passage from witness missed between Drummond and Tony McCall.
Drummond was again the first relay runner when the American relay was classified second behind the Canada with the Olympic Games of summer of 1996. On 100 m, it reached the semi-finals. In 1997, Drummond gained its single national title over 200 m and finished seventh of the championships of the world. In 1999, suffering of a Meningitis, it succeeds in returning and took part in the victorious relay with the championships of the world
With the Olympic Games of summer of 2000 with Sydney, Drummond, fifth on 100 m, gained the title out of relay with Bernard Williams, Brian Lewis and Maurice Greene. With the championships of the world of athletics of 2001, Drummond was again selected like first relay runner, but suffering of a cramp as of half of its relay towards Mickey Grimes, it could not run finally.
In 2002, Drummond took part in the World cup of the nations for the United States, finishing fourth on 100 m and gaining the relay with Jason Smoots, Kaaron Conwright and Coby Miller.
In 2003, with the championships of the world in Paris, it was disqualified in quarterfinal of the 100 m for a false start. It however disputed this decision, repeating that it had not moved. It delayed the other races during nearly one hour, refusing to leave the track. He protested one moment while lying down on the track. He left it later in tears. It was one of the many cases which led to the revision of the rule concerning the false starts. The data of the race showed that Drummond had not carried out a false start but which it twice had by tressailli in these starting blocks.
Drummond works from now on as trainer of fitness with Arlington (Texas).
