John Weider

John Weider is a Guitariste, Bassiste and British Violoniste of Rock born the April 21st 1947 with London (England). It is in particular known as bass player of the progressive group Family of 1969 until 1971.

Biography

Beginnings

Before joining Family, Weider was already tested. He had already played with legendary the Steve Marriott within the pre Small Faces ( Steve Marriott and the Moments ). He had then replaced Mick Green as guitarist of the Johnny Kidd and the Pirates.

In 1966 Eric Burdon, leader of the Animals, gathers a new team ( Eric Burdon and the New Animals ). Burdon engages John Weider with the guitar. The first album of the group leaves in 1967: Winds off Exchange . The style blues becomes psychédélique. Weider remains with the group until in 1968, recording The Twain Shall Meet and Love Is , in which the future guitarist of The Police Andy Summers takes part.

In 1969, Weider takes part in California in the Stonehenge group when Rick Grech abruptly leaves Family during their first American round. It integrates Family as soon as Rick Grech eclipses to integrate the super-group Blind Faith

Family

Weider is the ideal substitute of Grech. Like Grech, he is bass player but also an excellent violonist, and the majority of the songs of Family then incorporate arrangements in the violin. Simple the No Mule' S Fool , first simple of Family with Weider, directs the group in a direction country-rock'n'roll.

Weider appears on the two albums of Family to beginning of the year 70 ( has Song For Me and Anyway ). The live face of the disc Anyway makes it possible to hear its violin solos like a waltz played same instrument.

During this period simple the Today , coécrit by Weider, Chapman, and Withney, makes it possible to hear Weider with the slide-guitar inspired by the play of George Harrison.

After Family

Weider leaves Family at the summer 1971. Although it replaced Rick Grech as bass player of Family, there remained basically a guitarist… and wanted to remain it. It joined Stud then, a group which included/understood the guitarist-bass player Jim Cregan (future-Family in 1972).

After the dissolution of Stud, Weider leaves its first album solo in 1976. Its recent albums are influenced by New Age than by the folk, the rock'n'roll, or the style country.
