John Vincent Atanasoff
John Vincent Atanasoff was a Physicien, Mathématicien and American Engineer of Bulgarian origin . He was, with his student Clifford Berry, the originator of the first computer, named ABC for Atanasoff-Berry Computer . Its ideas, use of binary, use of an ALUMINUM to carry out basic arithmetic calculations were included in ENIAC, considered thus wrongly as the first computer. Indeed, Eckert and John William Mauchly, originators of ENIAC, patent their invention like the first computer (" first digital computer"), but a lawsuit in the Seventies, judge whom they did nothing but take again the ideas of the computer of Atanasoff - Berry, ABC, and thus devotes Atanasoff like the inventor of the first electronic computer. The lawsuit Honeywell v. Sperry Rand (1973) entered the history not only for the attribution of the invention of the computer in Atanasoff, but also for the invalidation of the patent of Eckert and Mauchly, put this invention in the public domain.
Atanasoff made its thesis of Doctorat in 1930, with the Université of Wisconsin-Madison, bearing on the permittivity of Helium . Then, it joined the University of Iowa, where it teaches mathematics and physics, and where it works on the computer.
