John T. Sladek

John Thomas Sladek is a writer states-unien of Science-fiction born the December 15th 1937 in Minnesota and deceased the March 10th, 2000) famous for its satirical writings and its surrealist novels. It resided at London (the United Kingdom) in the years 1960 at the time of the New Wave.

Novels

    • Its first novel, published in London by Gollancz under the title The Reproductive System and in the USA under that of Mechasm , had as a subject the construction project of machines which built copies of themselves, escaping and their creator and threatening humanity.
    • In The Müller-Fokker Effect , an attempt to record the personality of human turns badly, which makes it possible the author to be ironical in connection with the pornographic magazine and patriotism, religion, business world inter alia goods.
    • Roderick and Roderick At Random is traditional variations on the world seen by Ingenuous which is anything else here only one robot.

    • the topic of the robots is again approached in a more pessimistic way in Tik-Tok , where a robot Sociopathe enfreint the so expensive laws of robotics with Asimov.

    • In the satirical novel Bugs , a technical writer (profession of Sladek during a few years) takes part in making of a robot which sinks in the madness.

Sladek is also known for its parodies of authors of SF such as Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and Cordwainer Smith. As a good materialist leans on the paranormal and the occult sciences in The New Apocrypha and, under the name of James Vogh, wrote Arachne Rising , which claims to be the realistic account of the removal of the thirteenth sign zodiacal to prove the credulity of the public. He also collaborated with his friend Thomas Mr. Disch to write The House that Fear Built (under the pseudonym of Cassandra Knye) and the satirical thriller Black Alice under the name of Thom Demijohn).

Sladek left the United Kingdom to return in Minnesota in 1986, where it resided jusquà its death in 2000 of a lung disease.
