John Pritchard

Sir John Michael Pritchard is a British Leader , born the February 5th 1921 with London and dead the December 5th 1989 with Daly City (California)

Biography

Raised in a family of musicians whose father was violonist with the Symphony orchestra of London, he studies the violin, the piano and the direction in Italy.

Since 1947, it is attached to the Festival of Glyndebourne, before becoming its musical director of 1969 to 1978. It also led many operas in the most prestigious rooms to Vienna, Covent Garden, Chicago, New York, Brussels, then San Francisco.

At the end of its career, it was appointed musical director of the Opera of San Francisco, a station especially created for him.

Famous for its interpretations of the operas of Mozart, it also defended the contemporary creation.
