John Oxley

John Oxley is a explorer English, born the 1785 with Yorkshire and dead the May 26th 1828.

It joined the Navy and travels to Australia on board the Buffalo . During some time, it is stationed in Tasmanie. After its service, it regains the Great Britain where it remains until becoming the general police chief of the News-Wales of the South in 1812. Five years later, it begins its voyages.

It explores in 1817 the rivers Lachlan and Macquarie with the botanist Allan Cunningham (1791-1839). It makes off appear the account of its voyage under the title Journals Two Expeditions into the Interior off New South Wales, undertaken by order off the British government in the years 1817-18 . In 1818, Oxley discovers Dubbo. Its newspaper suggests that it reaches this area the June 12th 1818 which it describes like a beautiful area, quite wooded.

In 1819, it goes to the bay Jervis which it finds unsuitable with colonization. In 1823, Oxley follows the northern coast on board the Cotre Mermaid and explores Port Curtis and the Baie Moreton. In 1824, accompanied again by Cunningham it discovers the Brisbane rivers and Bremer. It recommends to the governor to establish a colony in the Moreton bay who will become later the site of the town of Brisbane.
