Biogrophie

Born in Alabama, J.J. Malone sings in the local church, is initiated with the Harmonica and the Guitare before learning the Piano which will be its principal instrument. It records in California, takes part in various units and meets the producer Ray Shanklin, owner of the label Galaxy. It then engraves a beautiful series of 45-t between Soul and Rhythm and Blues and obtains some small local successes with It' S.A. shame , One step away , Danger zone . Shanklin, allured by its feather of type-setter and its talents of arranger, entrusts to him responsibilities in its firm Galaxy/Fantasy then in full expansion. Malone is found at a neuralgic station: it is thus brought to advise Little Johnny Taylor, Big Mama Thornton, Sony Rhodos, and to write, according to the dires of this last, a few pieces of the Creedence Clearwater Revival (without in being credited). It meets on this occasion a string of musicians, joins an old small glory Rockabilly, the singer-guitarist Troyce Key. Together, they buy a club close to Oakland, “Eli' S Mile”, which becomes one of the obliged places of the Californian blues in the Seventies.

J.J. Malone succeeds in turning in Europe. It makes a furtive appearance but effective on the disc of his/her friend Sony Rhodos, I don' T want my blues colored bright (Black Magic), division the high-speed motorboat with Troyce Key on the excellent microgrooves I' ve gotta has new because (Red Lightnin') and Younger than yesterday (Red Lightnin'). It records then some microgrooves of very good level like The enemy called haste (Cherrie). Some are available out of CD since its death in 2004.

In the slow blues sung by Malone, its voice seems to emerge from a vapor curtain of whiskey and smoke. Sensitive pianist, supporting the trilles the made-to-order of his compatriot of the Alabama, Walter Roland, Malone is a formidable type-setter.
