John Macquarrie
John Macquarrie (born the June 27th 1919 with Renfrew, on the Clyde, close to Glasgow, Scotland - died the May 28th 2007 with Oxford) was a philosopher and Théologie Scottish N , professor with the Université of Oxford, which tried in its work to reconcile the philosophy existentialist and the Christianisme.
Biography
Born within a family presbytérienne excessively pious woman, John Macquarrie was the son of Pasteur of the Église presbytérienne of Scotland with strong roots Gaélique S.He began his studies with the Paisley Grammar School, and continued them with the Université of Glasgow where he studied the Philosophie under the direction of the professor Charles Arthur Campbell (obtaining a Mastère in 1940) then the Théologie (doctorate in 1943).
It engaged in the British army during the Second world war, and was used as 1943 with 1948. Ordered in 1945, it was affected with the chaplaincy of the army.
After its demobilization, it was some Pasteur time in the Church of Scotland, before undertaking a doctorate in philosophy with the Université of Oxford, which it obtained in 1954, which enabled him to obtain a station of reader in theology to the Trinity College of Glasgow.
In 1962, John Macquarrie was named systematic Professor of theology with the Union Theological Seminary of New York and settled for a time with the the United States. During its stay in the United States, he became member of the Église Anglican, but by regard for its family and her strong presbytériennes roots, he has maintained his worship in the Église of Scotland.
In 1981, it became Doctor of divinity of the Université of Oxford and was elected, in 1984 member of the British Academy.
John Macquarrie died the May 27th 2007 with Oxford where it had been withdrawn at the end of his university career.
