John Kufuor

John Agyekum Kufuor (Kumasi, December 8th 1938) is the president Ghana since the January 7th 2001 and chair African Union since January 2007.

Kufuor followed studies to the University of Oxford. He is enthusiastic Christian.

Already candidate in 1996, it had been overcome by Jerry John Rawlings, in 2000, it gains the presidential one and alternation takes place without disorder. Under its first mandate, it launches a campaign against corruption in the large national companies, companies still directed by supports of former president JJ Rawlings. Kufuor cleans also the army while placing soldiers close to him at the headquarters. The same day, the legislative elections give to the party of Kufuor, the Nouveau Patriotic Party or NP the absolute majority at the Ghanaian Parliament with 129 seats out of 225. Kufuor is invested the January 7th 2005 for its second mandate.

Kufuor was elected president of the African Union on January 29th, 2007.
