The illustrator John Howe, born on August 21st, 1957 with Vancouver, passed his childhood to the Canada (to British Columbia) then settled in Europe; he lives today in Suisse, with Neuchâtel. It is in 1977, when it was twenty years old, that it gained Europe and more precisely Strasbourg, in France. Formed with the university of decorative arts of Strasbourg, it affectionate the world of fantastic and the Middle Ages cathedral. The last years in Strasbourg, enabled him to build a luggage of images. It is by exploring the museums, the books, the architecture and the sculptures exceptional of the city which it put in the search of a “fantastic realism” which holds together, which has its coherence interns and which suggests a true reality, even out of any immediate correspondence with our daily environment. One finds his favorite topics in the works which it illustrated: the War of fire of J. - H. Rosny for Gallimard in 1982, Cathedral for the blue Cloud in 1994, the Knights for Bayard in 1995, the mystery of Greenwood of Malika Ferdjoukh for Bayard in 1996, Dragons for Casterman in 1997, Bilbo the Hobbit of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien for Casterman in 1999 and albums of Claude Clément at Casterman ( the abandoned City , the Man which lit the stars )…
