John Holmes (diplomatic)

Sir John Holmes was born in April 1951 in Preston, in the North of the England (the United Kingdom). It is Diplomate of career. Currently with the the United Nations, it is assistant general secretary with the Humanitarian associations and Coordinateur of the emergency helps. It was named by Ban Ki-moon the January 3rd 2007 to replace the Norwegian Jan Egeland. Since 1976, it is married in Penelope Morris, with which it had three girls: Sarah, Lucy and Emilie (born in Paris).

Career

Jonh Holmes continued its studies with Preston Grammar School and Balliol College, with Oxford. In 1973, it integrates the Foreign Office (British ministry of the Foreign affairs).

It began its career with London to be sent in 1975 to New York, temporarily, like member of the delegation of his country to the session of the General meeting of the United Nations. In 1976, it was appointed Second Secretary with the British embassy with Moscow and, on its return to London in 1978, worked on the related questions with the Lebanon and the peace process with the the Middle East. It was then appointed Private secretary associated with the Foreign and the Commonwealth Office in 1982, where it dealt with the relative questions with the the Middle East, with the Africa, the Asia and the Latin America. Thereafter, he was First Secretary with the British embassy with Paris in 1984, person in charge of the economic questions and relating to the European Union.

On its return to London in 1987, it occupied the assistant post of head of the Soviet Department of the Foreign and the Commonwealth Office. Thereafter, during two years, from 1989 with 1991, it was detached near the British company of protected printers Thomas Of the Street. In 1991, it was dispatched near the High Commission British with New Delhi, as an Political adviser, then Economic council and commercial. For this reason, it directed the British supplementary programme and dealt with economic questions and commercial.

Again in station with London in 1995, it was briefly with the head of the external Department of the European Union to the Foreign Office, before joining the cabinet of the Prime Minister John Major with the 10 Downing Street, as a private secretary for the foreign affairs and Political adviser. It preserved these functions near the Prime Minister Tony Blair, of 1997 with 1999, to become its principal Private secretary. During this period, it prepared the British Summit of the G8 and the presidency in 1998 of it took. In 1999, John Holmes was anobli for its contribution to the peace process in the Northern Ireland and for the Accord of the Good Friday.

Of 1999 with 2001, to sir John Holmes was Ambassadeur the United Kingdom with Lisbon, before being named in the same functions with Paris.
