John Hewson
John Hewson (- 1662) was a colonel of a regiment of the New Model Army during the First revolution English.
November 24th 1645, following the death of its commander of which he was the second, he takes the orders of the regiment which, according to the tradition of the time henceforth, is called the “Regiment with foot of John Hewson”. In 1648, it plays a key function in the Purge of Pride. In January 1649, it signs the death warrant of Charles I {{er}}, thus making him a Régicide.
Always in 1649, several soldiers of its regiment refuse to fight in Ireland as long as the political program of the Niveleurs is not adopted. This Mutinerie ends when 300 soldiers are returned without payment of arrièrages of pay.
At the time of the English Restoration, it flees with Amsterdam, where it dies in 1662.
