John Harvey

John Harvey is a British writer , born with London, the December 21st 1938.

After having been teaching with the college then with the University of Nottingham until 1986, John Harvey lives of his writing. He founded then directed (1977 - 1999) a small house of edition Slow Dancer Close which is specialized in poetry.

John Harvey is a compulsive eater of the writing. Since the beginning of the years 1980 it published more than 90 novels, of the collections of poetry, the novels for the youth and good number of adaptations for the radio or television.

Its pseudonyms: John McLaglen, William S. Brady, JD Sandon, LJ Coburn, JB Dancer, WM James, Thom Ryder, Jon Binder, Jon Barton).

After having begun its career of writer by publishing pulps (police officers and much of westerns), it launches writes in 1989 a novel putting in scene a police officer of Polish origin of the police station of Nottingham of the name of Charles Resnick. It is the beginning of the celebrity. Its editor asks him to make a series of it. 10 adventures will follow one another per annum the rate/rhythm of a novel between 1989 and 1998. Resnick is a character very attaching, amateur of sandwiches, jazz and cats (he has of them 4 with famous names of jazzmen: Bud, Pepper, Dizzy and Miles) which lives in Nottingham. Harvey made this city the mirror of the the United Kingdom, making an effort with much accuracy and empathy to describe the current British company without in hiding the darkest aspects. The police framework is the police station of the city which is described as in the works of ED McBain or in televised series like " Hill Street Blues". Harvey written with a clear and precise style, going to essence, but giving a true depth to characters who are immediately attaching.
