John Thorneycroft Hartley was a British player of Tennis . It was born the January 9th 1849 with Tong, and died the August 21st 1935 with Knaresborough. It gained with 2 recoveries the Tournoi of Wimbledon, in 1879, and 1880. It beat finally at the time of its first sacring Vere Light St Goold 6-2, 6-4, 6-2. At the time of its second title, it beat Herbert Lawford 6-3, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. It tried to defend its title in 1881 against William Renshaw, but without success. It lost 6-0, 6-1, 6-1 against the player who was going then to gain Wimbledon 6 times of continuation.
