John Hadley
Sir John Hadley , (April 16th 1682 with London - February 14th 1744, in the Hertfordshire) is a British Astronome of the 18th century, member and vice-president of the royal Société of London.
He invented the octant or district of reflection which bears its name, precursor of the Sextant. This instrument allows, in the astronomical observations, to measure the angles since a ship, in spite of the movement of the vessel.
