John Galliano

John Galliano is a creator of Haute couture, of British nationality , gibraltarien, born the January 28th 1960 with Gibraltar.

Very talented, eccentric character and iconoclast, with the delirious look, narcissistic and provocative Dandy, it does not leave anybody indifferent and its processions among are awaited. It electrified the microcosm of the Haute couture.

Biography

Born from its true name Juan Carlos Antonio Galliano, from Spanish mother.

It obtains a diploma of St Martin' S School off Arts in 1984. Its procession of end of studies took as a starting point the revolutionary France, allowing him a stylistic excess which marked the spirits then.

As of his diploma obtained, John Galliano launches his claw in 1984. He creates several collections, in London, but they obtain only one success of regard, because the industrialists, persuaded that its creations cannot be realized within the framework of the ready-made clothes, do not want to follow it. However, in 1987, it obtains the price of the British creator of the year.

In 1990, it presents its first collection to Paris. Amanda Harlech remembers the night which preceded its first Parisian procession: “We were refrigerated, famished and without a penny out of pocket”. In its studio of the Bastille, it starts to have of the prestigious customers like Madonna or one of the largest high-speed motorboats of the African song Kofi Olomide which goes until quoting it in its titles, which are tubes of the African music.

Large technician, John Galliano has a passion for the work of skew, very present for example in his collections of the summer 1993 and the summer 1994: “A technique not convenient. However, a dress in skew, it is pleasure even; it is like swimming in a glassy sea! ”. It is by admiring the dresses of Madeleine Vionnet that this curious and impassioned technician came from there to skew.

It is then in full rise and wants to give a new dynamics to the Dior house. Bernard Arnault, who took the head of LVMH since 1987, names it, in 1995 in Givenchy, director of the creation of the Ready-made clothes and the High-seam and, in 1996 at Christian Dior, director of the creation of the High-seam and the female Prêt-à-porter. The very first dress which it produces at Dior is for the Diana princess, who carries it to the inauguration of the 50 years exposure of the Dior mark to MoMa of New York.

Its genius was to attack any element and to reinvent it while taking out it of its context. In 1999, he becomes artistic director of the whole of the female lines of Dior and deals with the responsibility for the total image of the claw, communication included. In 2001, he will add to his responsibilities that for the image of the Dior perfumes.

In the year 2000, with its procession, known as “Tramps”, it wanted to pay a homage luxurious and romantic “to the ingeniousness which deploy disinherited to dress itself”. In 2003, it opens its own shop " John Galliano" , street Saint-Honore in Paris, and launches its Hommes collection while continuing its activities at Dior.
