John Foster McCreight
honourable the John Foster McCreight (Caledon, Northern Ireland, 1827 - Hastings, England, November 18th 1913) was a magistrate who was the first personality to occupy the station of Prime Minister for the Colombia-British.
Biography
Of Irish origin , become lawyer, John Foster McCreight left for the Australia and remained four years there.
For an undetermined reason, it then left for Victoria (Colombia-British) and arrived there in 1860.
It seems that its membership of the Franc-maçonnerie facilitated its political ascendance.
The Colombia-British entered the Confederation of the Canada on July 20th, 1871. In August, he became public prosecutor in the cabinet temporary, and appointed with the legislative Assemblée of the Colombia-British on October 16th.
November 13rd, 1871, McCreight became Prime Minister for the Colombia-British, chosen by the Lieutenant-governor. McCreight highly was criticized, given up by its partisans, and a Motion of censure deposited in December 1872 caused its resignation.
It continued to sit at the Parliament until 1875, became adviser of the queen, then was member of the Supreme court of the Colombia-British of 1880 to 1897.
After its retirement, it turned over to England and died there in 1913.
