John DeWitt

John Lesesne DeWitt was a Général of the American Armée known for its role in the internment with the Japanese to the the United States during the Second world war.

Military career

DeWitt was born with Fort Sidney in the Nebraska the January 9th 1880. October 10th, 1898, he became lieutenant as a second in the infantry of the American army.

First World War

DeWitt was useful in the 42e division of the infantry during the Great War initially as a lieutenant colonel. It was promoted colonel in July 1918 and accepted the Distinguished Service Medal with the end of the year.

Inter-war period

Between 1919 and 1930, DeWitt was used for several stations, among which that of Ordering Assistant of the General Staff College . In 1930, it reached the rank of Major General.

Second world war

December 5th 1939 with the June 15th 1943, DeWitt ordered the Western Defense Command . After the Attack on Pearl Harbor the December 7th 1941, it took part in the internment of 110.000 Americans of Japanese origin and the Japanese resident in the United States. It supervised military operations in the Aleutian Islands, invaded by the Japanese forces. It withdrew army in 1947.

Reprocess

In 1954, DeWitt became general by decision of the American Congrès, in reward of its services during the Second world war. It mourrut of one heart attack at the 82 years age to Washington, D.C the June 20th 1962 and was buried with the cemetery of Arlington.
