Biography
Wire of musician, he learns the music very early. He impassions himself quickly for the fantastic kind which he on television discovers in particular thanks to Forbidden Planet which reveals its desire to become Cinéaste. It is thus very young, at the 14 years age, which it carries out its first short films. Always also impassioned, it integrates the the University of California of the South in the section cinema. It takes part in it as scenario writer, type-setter and musician with the Short film: The Resurrection off Broncho Billy , a western which gains the Oscar better short-measuring.The whole of the work of the Cinéaste is undoubtedly more terrifying cinema, which is worth to him the title of “Master of the horror”. One finds throughout his films a desire to transpose the western in an urban context as well as cynical heroes in margin from the company in total opposition with the Hollywood model. Some of its works as Invasion Los Angeles are true criticisms on the american company. Its work moreover is characterized by a technical rigor with the service of environment. John Carpenter is very influenced by the narrative control of American films of the Forties to 60, particularly works of Howard Hawks, which he regards as his Master. One can find the screen of Rio Bravo in Assaut (a group isolated in a police station attacked by unknown enemies), wrongfully taxed with reactionary at his exit, and considered today as one of the chiefs of work of door-close and perhaps the best film of its author. One will also note the influence of Don Siegel and his “Invasion of the profaners of burials” in several films of Carpenter. Thanks to its musical formation he is also an excellent type-setter. He signed, often in collaboration with Allan Howarth, the partition of the quasi totality of his films, enabling him as well as possible to retranscribe the required emotions.
Married on January 1st 1979 with the actress Adrienne Barbel, it divorces it in 1984 after she gave him a son, Cody, born in 1983. It remarie in 1990 with producing the Sandy King. His/her son, Cody, also compose him of the music. One could off hear it in the 2 episodes of Masters Horror of his father.
