John Blow

John Blow is a organist and Compositeur English, born in February 1649 and dead on October 1st 1708.

He was organist of the Abbaye of Westminster starting from 1668, and later, Choirmaster chaplain and of the Cathédrale Saint-Paul of London. He was also named with the Royal Chapelle by Jacques II. Among his pupils, one counts William Croft and Henry Purcell. He was a faithful friend of this last.

Most of its work consists of vocal Musique crowned (it composed more than 100 Anthem S). But its most known work is the Masque Venus and Adonis which has, according to any probability, been used as model in Purcell for its chief of work, Dido and Aeneas .
