He plays and records with Chico Hamilton, Gato Barbieri, Barry Miles, Billy Cobham, Jeremy Steig, Gil Evans,…

Located by the producer Manfred Eicher, it chooses to leave its discs for “ECM”, the label of this last. For ECM, it records like member of the group “New Directions” of Jack DeJohnette or with other “foalta” of the label (Ralph Towner, Collin Walcott, Jan Garbarek,…). It also records as leader of many albums. in 1979, it forms a regular quarter Richie Beirach with the Piano, George Mraz with the Contrebasse and Peter Donald with the battery. With the beginning of the year 1980, it forms also a trio with Marc Johnson with the double bass and Peter Erskine with the battery. In the years 1990, it forms a new trio with daN Wall with the Orgue Hammond and Adam Nussbaum with the battery. Since, it continues to occur and record abundantly, while carrying out in parallel a career of teacher.

With the passing of years, one could hear Abercrombie at the sides of musicians like Dave Liebman, Enrico Rava, Barre Philips, Bobby Hutcherson, McCoy Tyner, Jim Hall, Andy LaVerne, Michel Petrucciani, Paul Bley, Joe Lovano, Bob Brookmeyer, Tom Harrell, Charles Lloyd, Lee Konitz, Lonnie Smith,…
