Johannes Ockeghem
Johannes Ockeghem or Jean Ockeghem (born v. 1420 with Saint-Ghislain, very close to Mons, Hainaut - died the February 6th 1497 with Turns, France) was a type-setter free-Flemish of the Renaissance, considered as the leader of the generation of type-setters of second half of the 15th century, between Guillaume Dufay and Josquin Of the Meadows.
Birth
Up to now, one was tiny room to assumptions in connection with his birthplace. It was often thought that it had been born in Flanders-Eastern where there is a village of Okegem, close to Dendermonde (Termonde in French, currently in Belgium), around 1420. But he said itself originating in the Hainaut. One knows today by a discovery of Daniel Van Overstraeten that Jean Ockeghem was born with Saint-Ghislain, very close to Mons.
Biography
One does not know large thing of the youth of Johannes Ockeghem. After a short passage to the cathedral of Antwerp where he was chaplain-cantor, he made his career in France at the court of the Duc of Bourbon, then as choirmaster of the king. October 1st 1451, it was engaged like “first chaplain” at the court of the king Charles VII. It was, starting from 1452, musician of the court of France, under the reigns of Charles VII, Louis XI and Charles VIII. It composed of many masses and polyphonic songs.
Between 1456 and 1459, he is treasurer of the abbey Saint Martin's day de Tours.
Towards 1480, they are its works and either those of Guillaume Dufay which was proposed like models with its contemporaries, in particular by the brabançon Johannes Tinctoris (originating in Nivelles) which lived at the court of King Ferdinand d' Aragon with Naples and which wrote important treaties of " music pratique".
Works
Its Requiem (probably composed in 1461 with died of Charles VII) is the first known example of polyphonic requiem, that of Guillaume Dufay, most probably former, having been lost.
It also composed several masses of which Missa Cuiusvis Toni, which one can read in all tons them, by choosing the key of reading before singing, in order to be able to sing in tons employed for the characteristic of the mass. But still the mass of the prolations, where he is played of the rhythmic notations of his time to create guns by writing only one line of music.

He died the February 6th 1497 with Tours (currently in France). He was canon and treasurer, which was worth a considerable fortune to him.
