Johannes Buxtorf

Johannes Buxtorf (1564 - 1629) hébraïsant, born the December 25th 1564 with Kamen in Westphalia, dead the September 13rd 1629 with Basle.
It was fixed at Basle in 1588 and fills during 38 years the pulpit there with language Hébraïque. It had an extremely extended knowledge of the books of the Rabbin S.
Its principal works are:
- grammatical Epitome hebrœae
- Thesaurus grammaticus linguai hébrxœ
- Grammaticachaldaica and syriaca
- Lexicon hebraicum and chaldaicum
- Lexicon thalmudicum and rabbinicum fiberias , work where it treats Massore.
Buxtorf and its son, who replaced it in the pulpit, had sharp discussions with the scientist Louis Cappel about the points vowels, of which they allotted the invention to Esdras, but which appear to be of a less old date.
