Johann Heinrich Zopf (1691 Managed - 1774) German Historien .

He made his studies with the Université of Market then became director of the gymnasium Lutheran of Essen in 1719. He and pointed out himself there by his knowledge until his death, which arrived in February 1774. He published, in 1729, a Précis of the universal history , which had much success in the schools of Germany and which was printed seventeen times during the life of the author. This work had still several editions since; and that which was done by the professor Kranse was translated into French by Hendrik (francized in Henri ) Jansen (1741-1812) and was published by Schoell under this title: Precise of history universal, political, ecclesiastical and literary, since the creation of the world until the peace of Schœnbrunn, continued on a level more extended, and increased by a History of the French revolution, etc , Paris, 1810, 5 vol. in-12.

In this work, Zopf took for base the history of the Jews, and it attaches the synchronism of the other nations to it. Arrived at our era, it is the Roman empire which is used to him as center; then, it looks at the Germanic empire like the continuation of the Roman empire, and the continuation of all the modern history attaches to it. The translator modified this plan, by giving a little more place to the history of the other people.

Zopf was also interested in the phenomenon of the Vampire S and devoted to him a work entitled Dissertatio of vampyris Serviensibus , published in Duisbourg in 1733.
