Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi

Johan Heinrich Pestalozzi (January 12th 1746 - February 17th 1827) is a pedagog Suisse at the base of the modern Pédagogie.

Pestalozzi founded an agricultural company with educational vocation which ruins it quickly, it directs then several establishments to Stans then Burgdorf before being success with Yverdon-the-Baths where it accommodates to 250 pupils of all levels.

It is known to have translated in practice the theories of Rousseau on the education system. It influenced the philosopher Fichte, who however wanted to integrate pedagogy into philosophy transcendantale of freedom.

Its educational principle is:

  1. presentation of the concrete aspect before introducing the abstract concepts
  2. to start with the close environment before occupying itself of what is distant
  3. simple exercises introduces the more complicated exercises
  4. always to proceed gradually and slowly.

Its pedagogy remains anchored to the agricultural domains and professionals and practical the mutual teaching.

Its institute, located at the castle of Yverdon-the-Baths (Swiss Canton of Vaud in ), is an important center of 1805 with 1925. It puts its educational theories in practice at it.

Its name was given to the Village of children Pestalozzi with Trogen and a street of the Latin Quarter in Paris, the historical quarters of the schools and universities.
