Johann Fust

Johann Fust , born about 1400 with Mainz in Germanic Roman Holy roman Empire, dead on October 30th, 1466 with Paris, rich person Goldsmith, it finances work of Gutenberg and Pierre Schoeffer.

Fust and Gutenberg

In 1450 it joins Gutenberg and proposes to him to lend 800 guilders per annum to him. But in 1455, it requires the refunding of the debt. Following the judgment of the court, Gutenberg loses the lawsuit, incompetent to refund it gives up its printing works in counterpart.

Fust and Schoeffer

Johann Fust continued the activity of printer with his/her son-in-law, Peter Schöffer, which had learned the trade with Gutenberg. It then published various works of which:
  • the Psautier of Mainz - Mainzer Psalterium - October 14th, 1457
  • a Bible in Latin (1462)
  • and a work of Cicéron.

He died in Paris in 1466 probably of the plague.
