Johann Fischer von Waldheim

Johann Gotthelf Fischer von Waldheim ( Grigorij Ivanovitsch Fischer von Waldheim in Russian) is a Naturaliste, a paleontologist and a Russian anatomist of origin German E, born the October 13rd 1771 with Waldheim in Saxony and dead the October 18th 1853.

Biography

After its studies of Medicine to Leipzig, he travels to Vienna and Paris with his friend Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859). To Paris, it follows the courses of Georges Cuvier (1769-1832).

He teaches initially with Mainz, then starting from 1804, he is professor of Natural history to the Academy of Moscow and director of its natural history museum. In August 1805, it founds the imperial Société of the naturalists of Moscow.

He works on all the fields of the natural history. He makes many research on the classification of the Invertébré S and publishes Entomographia Imperii Rossici whose publication is spread out 1820 with 1851. He also studies the Fossile S around Moscow as well as the Mollusque S and other marine organizations.
