Johann Fischart
Johann ( Jean ) Fischart is a writer of German language probably born with Strasbourg in 1546 and died with Forbach in 1591. It is known for its satirical and committed writings like for its translations of Rabelais in German. It is one of the first great writers of German language.
Its life
Born with Strasbourg he is the son of Hans Fischer rich person commercial originating in Mainz what is worth sometimes the nickname to him of " Mentzer" , which means Mayençais. He studies successively with the " Gymnasium" or college of Strasbourg then at the Latin school of Worms and then in the Netherlands and Paris where it is in close contact with the community huguenote. It returns then to Strasbourg what it empèche not to remain with His in Toscane and with Basle in Suisse.
He exerts the functions of substitute and lawyer to the imperial room of Spire i.e. Speyer. In 1583 it becomes " Amtmann" i.e. baillif with Forbach in Lorraine.
Its death remains enigmatic but the most probable assumption is a violent disappearance during the engagements having led to the setting with bag of the castle and the town of Forbach: men of Christian Ier d' Anhalt-Bernburg (ally of Henri IV, king de France) being opposed to those of the Duke Of Lorraine in a conflict related to the succession on the throne of France. It would thus be advisable to locate its death at the autumn 1591.
Its work
Johann Fischart is known for its satirical writings against the catholics but also for its inventiveness with the service of the German language of which it is one of the first great writers. From this point of view it should be put in parallel with Rabelais of which it adapted part of works besides to the German language with a very comparable liveliness.
