Johann Christian Bach

Johann Christian Bach (name francized in Jean-Christian Bach ), eleventh and the last wire of Jean-Sebastien Bach, saw the day with Leipzig the September 5th 1735. One also knows it under the name of “Bach of London”. Remarkably gifted for the Music like its others brothers, he received of course the musical training of his/her father but, with died of this one in 1750, it is his/her brother-in-law, Johann Christoph Altnickol, which continued its education. Johann Christian then left for Berlin to join his/her brother Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach who completed a solid musical formation.

It discovers the Italian style there and, eager to look further into this way, it goes to Milan in the count Agostino Litta, changes his first name into Giovanni Christiano and converts with the Catholicisme. One finds it in 1757 with Bologna raises of Padre Martini then in 1760 Organiste of the cathedral of Milan. During its stay in Italy, he wrote 16 opera S of which he drew as well from glory as the King' S Theater of London made it come in 1762. Two years later, Johann Christian obtained the coveted post of Master of music of the queen Sophie-Charlotte and, the same year, it had the joy of playing with the young person Mozart then old of only 8 years.

It goes to Mannheim in 1772, written there a opera for the theater of the city, Temistocle , then in 1776 a new opera ( Lucio Silla on a booklet also used by Mozart).

Lastly, in 1778, J.C. Bach received an order of Paris for an opera ( Amadis de Gaulle ) which did not have any success. Its last years were not very glorious: it mourrut with London on February 1st 1782, overpowered debts, that the queen regulated. Although married beginning 1773 with an Italian singer, Cecilia Grassi, one does not know a descent to him.

Johann Christian was one of the first clavierists to be played of the Piano-forte and to compose for this new instrument.
