Biography
In 1856, one presented to him bones discovered in a cave of the valley of Neandertal, close to Düsseldorf. He recognized in these vestiges those of a predecessor of the modern man; it was about the skeleton which would be used for recognizing and defining the Homme of Néandertal.
He attended the college of Heiligenstadt then went to the university to Bonn where he studied theology during one year before turning to mathematics and the natural science. In 1828, it passed to Münster the examination to be a professor of college (Oberlehrer). It made its probatory year with Heiligenstadt then, in 1830, entered to the college of Elberfeld which had just been founded and taught there until its death. In 1835, it was accepted doctor at the university of Tübingen and accepted in 1862 the title of professor. It was one of the pioneers of the paleoanthropology.
L' fossil man of Néandertal is one of its main works… (1865).
The owner of a career having given to him of the bones to the edges unusually bulky and the extremely vigorous fasteners of muscles, Fuhlrott immediately allotted these characters to an individual “of prehistoric times”, and that two years before the book resounding of Charles Darwin on the origin of the species . When he proposed his interpretation in 1857, in a meeting of the naturalists, he was not taken with the serious one; worse still, this reaction discouraged it completely. He concludes his first report/ratio by writing that he resigned himself to having to give up any idea to make share his opinion.
