Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach

Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach is a Architecte and Austrian Sculpteur. He was born with Graz on July 20th 1656 and died on April 5th 1723 with Vienna. He is regarded as one of the creators of the architectural style German late baroque.

He is born on July 20th, 1656 in Graz under the name of Johann Bernhard Fischer .

He followed studies of sculpture, his father being itself sculptor, then as from 1674, remains with Rome where it is formed with architecture in the workshop of Carlo Fontana. It there meets Bernin and takes note of works of Borromini and Guarini. It is of return to Vienna in 1686 after the seat by the Othoman troops in 1683. At this time there, the Austrian capital is delivered threat which weighed on it since years and Fischer von Erlach can equip the town of prestigious buildings. It will hold the post of imperial sculptor of the court until 1689 when he becomes professor of architecture of the future heir to the throne Joseph I {{er}}. It will be anobli by the emperor Léopold in 1705, who grants to him the title of Erster Hofbaumeister (first architect of the Court), and its particle gives him: Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach.

It will carry out its larger masterpieces as from 1715 of which the Église Saint-Charles-Borromée and the Château of Schönbrunn in Vienna.

His/her son, Joseph Emanuel, continued his work after his death.

Fischer von Erlach, considered as one of the more Austrian great architects, tried a synthesis of various elements coming from the various periods of the Baroque. That gives has its buildings an originality which rained at the Court of Vienna, city which preserves still today splendid works of Fischer von Erlach and her son.
