Johann-Gottfried Bischoff

Johann-Gottfried Bischoff , born on January 2nd, 1871 with Unter-Mossau (Germany), dead on July 6th, 1960, with Karlsruhe (Germany), was the third Apostle-patriarch of the néo-apostolic Église, between 1930 and 1960. It in particular introduced a new teaching, at the origin of the scissions of 1951 (in Switzerland and the Saar) and of 1955 (in West Germany, in the Netherlands and in South Africa).

Shoe-maker of trade, it rejoins the néo-apostolic church in 1896.

He becomes apostle of district, before taking part in the First World War. He affirms in his autobiography that he was proposed for the cross of the merit and that its superiors were very satisfied with him.

He is designated as patriarch 28 years after his entry within the néo-apostolic church, in 1924, thus succeeding Hermann Niehaus. The successor that this last would have preferred was the apostle Carl August Brückner but it had been excluded in 1921 because of differences as regards faith.

In 1941, it makes appear a text in the magazine of the church, Our family , where it strongly supports the Nazi regime.

During the period of Christmas 1951, it introduces a new teaching within the néo-apostolic church, affirming that Jesus Christ will return on ground of alive sound, and that he is thus the last patriarch. Called “Botschaft”, or “prophecy”, this prediction became an official dogma of the church in 1954. The members not wanting to follow it were excommunicated, at fort right titrates, initially in Switzerland then later in the Netherlands and Germany. All these faithful excluded federates as of January 1956 with other groups, excluded before, to give rise to the Union of the Apostolic Communities, a federation of the independent churches in Europe, Australia, India and South Africa.

With its death, in 1960, nothing proves that its prediction was carried out, and Walter Schmidt takes his immediate succession.
