Johan Maurits Mohr is a missionary and a astronomer Dutch, born in 1716 and died in 1775.
It goes to Batavia (today Djakarta) to preach there.
Impassioned by the Astronomy, it sets up a large observatory whose power was famous at its time. It receives in particular the visit of James Cook (1728-1779) which describes in eulogistic term, in its account of voyage, the installation of Mohr. This one plays a great part in the scientific study of future the Indonesia.
After its death, its observatory falls in disuse and ends up disappearing.
