Joffre Dumazedier
Joffre Dumazédier (1915-2002) is a Sociologue French. He was one of the pioneers of the sociology of the leisure and the formation.
Born the December 30th 1915 with Taverny in the Valley from Oise from a modest family from North from France, it owes its first name to the marshal éponyme. His/her father dies at the time of the Bataille of Verdun. Joffre Dumazedier continues literary studies with the Sorbonne which it completes by a report of linguistics relating to the mediating functions of the language. He teaches after the defeat of 1940, with the school of the executives of Uriage where he organizes the working training courses, and sees itself entrusting the social questions and teaching. Resisting, it takes part in the " volantes" teams; of Vercors of 1943 to 1944.
It contributes with a majority of former uriagists to found in 1944 the movement of popular education Peuple and culture, with through which it tries out his theories as regards Sociologie leisures and of use of the spare time.
In 1954, it founds the Group of studies of the leisures and the popular culture. Is researcher with the CNRS and teacher in Paris V, Dumazedier regarded as the most eminent author on the matter since his work published in 1962 Towards a civilization of the leisure? . This work, and more largely the matter of Dumazedier, relates to the study of the leisure of the masses and its interactions with the whole of the activities of the daily life, whether it is work, the family or the policy; for him the leisure is not a secondary but central product of the current society .
Television and popular education (1975), the leisure and the city (1976), the Cultural revolution of the spare time (1990), remain its most known works in addition and support the thesis according to which the leisure must be integrated in a cultural democracy which requires a comprehensive policy and precondition of education and information.
Joffre Dumazedier is also one of the theorists of the Autoformation.
He dies the December 25th 2002 at the hospital Henri Mondor with Creteil.
