Joel Champetier is an author Québécois of Fantastique, Fantasy and Science-fiction, born the November 30th 1957 with Lacorne (Abitibi, Quebec Canada).

Biography

Joel Champetier became full-time writer after having worked in electrochemistry. He takes his first steps in science fiction and fantastic with the news the way of the flowers published in the magazine Solaris in 1981. After the publication of about fifteen news in various magazine and collections, of which some are translated into English, it publishes a Romance first for youth entitled the sea at the bottom of the world in 1990. the mole and the dragon , its first science-fiction novel for adults, is published in 1991. It will be translated into English and will be published in the the United States in 1999 at Tor Books. It was also published in France: a collection of news at Orion and its novel of fantasy the sources of the magic is appeared with the editions Bragelonne in 2005.

Joel Champetier implies himself also largely in the community of the science fiction and fantastic Québécois. In 1983, it is one of the Co-organizer of the Boreal Congrès, the annual convention of the literature of Québécois science fiction. He will be member of the 1989 and board of directors in 1984 to 1999, assuming inter alia the vice-presidency of 1994 to 1999.

In 1987, it becomes critical of fiction in the annual opus of the year of the science fiction and the fantastic inhabitant of Quebec . He is member of the editorial board of the Solaris review of which he was the literary director of 1990 to 1994, and coordinator of 1992 to 1996 (period during whom the magazine gained three Prix Aurora). He will be besides in 1995 Co-anthologiste with Yves Meynard of Escales on Solaris , an anthology for the birthday of the magazine. In 1996, he is honorary president of the Salon of the book of Abitibi-Témiscaminque; of which he had been previously the person in charge of the programming in 1991.

Its fantastic work (mainly represented by the novels memory of the lake , white skin and the wing of the butterfly ) was compared many times for its style with that of Stephen King, as well by criticism as by its editors. In 1997, it receives the mandate of scénariser the white skin for the cinema. The film of Daniel Roby based on his work appears in 2004.

After having left Abitibi, it remains with Saint-Severin de Proulxville, always with the Quebec.
